The Fairey Battle Mk. I was a British single-engine light bomber used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the early stages of World War II.

Introduced in 1937, it was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and had a crew of three: a pilot, observer, and rear gunner.

Despite its sleek design and innovative features for the time, including an enclosed cockpit and retractable landing gear, the Battle was underpowered and lightly armed, making it vulnerable to enemy fighters and anti-aircraft fire.

Armed with a single forward-firing .303 Browning machine gun and a rear Vickers K machine gun, it could carry up to 1,000 pounds of bombs.

During the Battle of France in 1940, the Fairey Battle suffered heavy losses due to its inadequate speed and defensive armament, leading to its eventual withdrawal from front-line service.
