Sd.Kfz. 9 (it. Sonderkraftfahrzeug 9) was a German half-track transporter from the Second World War. The first prototypes were built in 1936, and serial production continued in 1939-1945, ending with the production of about 2,500 copies of this vehicle. The drive was provided by a single motor Maybach HL 108TUKRM with 270 HP. Sd.Kfz. 7 did not have fixed armament as a standard.
Sd.Kfz. 9 was originally designed at FAMO as a specialized artillery tractor for heavy and heaviest artillery regiments. Even the early production batches of the car were quite heavy (nearly 20 tons!), But they were highly maneuverable, had very good off-road mobility and had considerable traction. They also proved to be reliable, mechanical and with little failure. In practice, Sd.Kfz. 9 during World War II was used primarily as a towing and rescue vehicle in field repair units. Its task was to retrieve its own damaged or immobilized tanks or self-propelled guns from the battlefield. Two versions of the car were made: Sd.Kfz. 9/1 with a crane with a lifting capacity of 6 tons and Sd.Kfz. 9/2 with a crane with a lifting capacity of 10 tons. Small amounts of Sd.Kfz. 9 served - apart from the German army - in the armed forces of Romania.
