Gneisenau is the Scharnhorst class' second ship.

The initial design could be upgraded with a 380 mm main gun battleship jumped to meet future war, but was not implemented during the Second World War.

Gneisenau was built by the German shipyard in Kiel, on 8th December 1936 it was launched, and began service on 21st May 1938.

In 1940 in the North Sea Gneisenau sank two ships of the Royal Navy, aircraft carrier Glorious and two destroyers,

Gneisenau cover damaged Scharnhorst on its way back to Germany after a British submarine fired a torpedo attack.

In 1941, the two ships together broke into the Atlantic, to disrupt maritime operations and destroy shipping.

In the two-month operation Gneisenau sunk 22 merchant fleet, with a total tonnage of 11,5000 tons, greatly damaging the Allied shipping.

February 26 to February 27 1942, in the port of Kiel, while Gneisenau was being repaired, the British Royal Air Force conducted airstrikes, causing an ammunition depot to blow up, damaging ship Gneisenau.

Gneisenau eventually, on 23rd March 1945 was scuttled, post-war Poland salvaged as scrap metal.
