The Fairey Gannet AS.1/AS.4 was a British carrier-borne anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft developed for the Royal Navy in the late 1940s and 1950s.
Designed by Fairey Aviation, it was distinctive for its twin-engine, turboprop configuration housed in a single fuselage driving contra-rotating propellers.
The Gannet's unique folding wing mechanism allowed it to operate efficiently from aircraft carriers.
The AS.1 variant was the initial production model, equipped with advanced radar and sonar for sub-hunting, while the AS.4 featured updated avionics and improved performance.
Renowned for its versatility, the Gannet also served in roles such as electronic countermeasures and carrier onboard delivery, proving its adaptability throughout its service life.
