The Mikoyan MiG-19S, known in Chinese service as the Shenyang F-6, was a Soviet-designed, second-generation supersonic jet fighter.

Introduced in the 1950s, it was the first Soviet fighter capable of sustained supersonic flight in level flight.

The aircraft featured twin engines, swept wings, and heavy cannon armament, offering solid performance for both interception and ground attack roles.

China produced the MiG-19 under license as the F-6, becoming one of its most widely exported jet fighters.

Egypt and Pakistan were key operators:

- Egypt used the MiG-19 and F-6 during multiple conflicts, including the Six-Day War and Yom Kippur War.
- Pakistan employed the F-6 extensively in the 1965 and 1971 wars with India, appreciating its durability and firepower despite its age.
- China continued to improve and produce variants, making the F-6 a backbone of its air force through the 1970s and beyond.

Despite being eclipsed by more modern aircraft, the F-6/MiG-19 served as a reliable and rugged platform in many developing air forces during the Cold War.
