Italeri 1/72 F-4U/4B Korean War # 1453
The F-4U Corsair was developed and produced by the Vought Air Force Company to be used as a fighter-embarked on the US Navy aircraft carriers.
It entered service at the end of 1944 and immediately proved to be extraordinarily efficient, robust and reliable.
On the Pacific front it reached a high ratio of aircraft used to downed enemies.
The Corsair was developed around the most powerful radial engine available at the time for the American industry: the 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp with over 2,000 hp.
The adoption of the powerful engine conditioned the design which was created with the characteristic gull wing, easily recognizable.
Its reliability resulted in a great operational longevity. It was in fact used, still effectively, during the Korean War.
