The Henschel Hs 123A-1 was a single-engine, biplane dive bomber and close-support aircraft developed by Germany in the 1930s.

Designed by Henschel Flugzeugwerke, it was the Luftwaffe’s first operational dive bomber, preceding more advanced designs like the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka.

The Hs 123A-1 was powered by a BMW 132Dc radial engine delivering 880 horsepower, enabling a maximum speed of approximately 211 mph (340 km/h) and a range of 528 miles (850 km).

It was armed with two 7.92 mm MG 17 machine guns mounted on the fuselage and could carry up to 450 kg (992 lbs) of bombs.

Its rugged construction and simple design allowed it to operate from makeshift airfields and withstand harsh conditions, making it well-suited for close air support.

First entering service in 1936, the Hs 123A-1 saw action during the Spanish Civil War and early campaigns of World War II, including Poland and France.

Despite its obsolescence compared to newer aircraft, the Hs 123 earned a reputation for reliability and resilience, remaining in limited use on the Eastern Front until 1944.

Its biplane configuration and sturdy airframe made it a favorite among pilots for low-altitude precision strikes and ground-attack missions.
