The Junkers Ju 87D-3N/D-7, commonly known as the 'Stuka' (short for Sturzkampfflugzeug, meaning dive bomber in German), was a variant of the iconic German dive bomber used extensively during World War II.
The D-series introduced significant upgrades, including a more powerful Jumo 211J engine, improved armor, and enhanced payload capacity.
The D-3N variant was optimized for night operations, featuring navigation enhancements, while the D-7 was adapted for anti-tank roles, equipped with cannon pods under the wings.
Known for its distinctive wailing siren (intended to terrorize enemy troops) and high accuracy in dive-bombing attacks, the Stuka played a crucial role in Blitzkrieg tactics on the Eastern Front and in North Africa.
However, its lack of speed and maneuverability made it vulnerable to enemy fighters without air support.
