The Mitsubishi A6M2-N Rufe was a floatplane fighter aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II.

It was a modification of the A6M2 Zero fighter and was designed to operate from seaplane bases and other bodies of water.

The A6M2-N was created in response to a need for an aircraft that could operate in areas where airfields were scarce or nonexistent.

Its design involved adding two floats to the Zero fighter, which allowed it to take off and land on water.

The aircraft was armed with two 7.7 mm machine guns and two 20 mm cannons, and could also carry two 60 kg bombs.

Despite its success as a seaplane fighter, the A6M2-N had some drawbacks.

The added weight of the floats reduced its speed and maneuverability, and its range was limited due to the need for frequent refueling.

Nonetheless, the Rufe was used in several key engagements during the war, including the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway.

Today, a few restored examples of the A6M2-N Rufe can be seen in aviation museums around the world, serving as a reminder of this unique and innovative aircraft from World War II.
